Imlay City captures a pair of games from rival Capac

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City turned back visiting Capac, 9-6 and 5-0, in a varsity baseball doubleheader pitting league rivals last Thursday.

In the opener, which did count toward the league standings, Mark Owen Jr. got the win for Imlay City. It was the seventh time he has emerged victorious this season. Owen gave up four hits en route.

Ryan Pitt got the save for Imlay City, while giving up three hits and striking out one.

Devon Wiegers (a single and a double) and Garrett Medaugh (two singles) led Imlay City with multiple-hit performances. Neal Thompson (a triple) Ryan Pitt and Blaine Goertler (a double apiece) along with Ryan Baker, Kevin Ahrens and James Hensley (a single each) accounted for their remaining hits.

Frank Williamson paced Capac with a pair of singles. The Chiefs also received hits courtesy of Jon Botwin (a triple), Steve Gilbert (a double) along with Travis York and Justin VanBibber (a single apiece).

In the nightcap, Imlay City prevailed in a five-inning battle which did not count toward the BWAC standings.

There Justin Pitt went the distance, notching his third win on the season. Pitt gave up two hits, struck out five and walked two along the way.

Thompson (a single and a double), Ryan Pitt, John Aversano and Goertler (a double each) plus Andy Rodak and Baker (a single apiece) furnished Imlay City's basehits there.

Tom Brys got both of Capac's hits.

With the results, Imlay City concludes BWAC action at 8-6. The Spartans also will take a 15-14 overall mark into postseason play.
