Late inning heroics lift Capac to a 5-4 win

TRI-CITY AREA — Amanda Gonzalez delivered a clutch double with one out during the bottom half of the seventh inning that plated Ashley Scott with the deciding run, capping a four-run final inning rally, as Capac pulled out a 5-4 win against Almont in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity softball confrontation last Thursday afternoon.

In Thursday's encounter, Almont jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning was complete.

Capac fought back with one-run during the bottom half of the fourth inning.

That made it a 3-1 ballgame at the time.

Innings five and six were scoreless.

Almont then increased their cushion to 4-1, thanks to a run during the top half of the seventh inning.

Capac responded to the challenge presented them with a 4-0 final inning rally, pulling out a 5-4 victory over Almont.

The winning Capac side notched six basehits en route to the favorable verdict. Katelyn Kain and Gonzalez (a double apiece) along with Jessica Blackstock, Courtney Biggs, Whitney Weston and Anna Cyrus (a single each) supported their plate performances.

Kristie Wheeler was Capac's pitcher of record. Wheeler gave up four hits and struck out six while going the seven-inning distance.

Andrea Walker paced Almont with a double. The Raiders also received a single apiece courtesy of Chanahl Putnam, Stephanie Klebba and Janet Gebauer.
