Sydney Morgan, 4, of Imlay City and Miranda Morningstar, 9, won the McDonald's Mother's Day Essay Contest, also sponsored by Jet's Pizza, Unique Floral Design, The Movie Gallery and Premier Car Wash.

A benefit for Imlay City Police Officer John Palacios will be held on June 1 at the Imlay City Eagles Hall. Dinner will be served from 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Music runs from 9 p.m.-midnight. In Attica, the Attica/Imlay Masons are hosting a Eucher Party beginning at 7 p.m. on May 19 at their lodge on Lake Pleasant Road. Ten games included in $5 donation.

Also at the Masonic Lodge, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. on May 20 a Pancake Breakfast for Charity will take place. Donation of $3 includes all you can eat pancakes, egg, sausage, fruit salad and refreshments. Proceeds go to help local charity.

In Goodland Twp., at West Goodland United Methodist Church The Northmen, a southern Gospel quartet, will perform at 6:30 p.m. on May 20. Coffee and cookies will be served afterwards. Everyone is welcome.

In Almont, the Almont Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association is collecting box tops for the school library. Please drop off box tops at the middle school's front office at 4624 Kidder Rd. until June 13.

A Rummage Sale will take place at the Almont Lions Hall from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on May 17 and 19, and 9 a.m. -2 p.m. on May 19. Donations for the sale accepted after 6 p.m. today (May 16).

In Dryden, the St. Cornelius, the Altar Society is holding its annual Spring Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. May 17-18 and from 8 a.m.-noon on May 19.

In Allenton, a blood drive will take place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Capac Road from 2-8 p.m. on May 21.

Gallery 194 is hosting teh Lapeer High School Art Show with an artist reception from 5-8 p.m. on May 18. The event is free.

Also at the gallery, the works of fiber artist Deborah Hyde and glass artist John Fitzpatrick will be exhibited from May 30-June 23 with an artist reception slated for June 2 from 5-7 p.m. Call 667-1495 for more information.
