Spartans bats come alive in win over Chiefs

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City rolled to a convincing 14-1 victory over host Capac in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity baseball game spanning five innings Monday afternoon.

With the result, Imlay City improves to 8-6 overall and 4-2 when pitted against BWAC rivals.

Ryan Pitt (a single, two doubles, two runs and four RBI), Neal Thompson (two singles, three runs and two RBI), Blaine Goertler (two singles, two runs and two RBI), Andrew Rodak (a single, a double and one RBI), Justin Pitt (two singles, one run and one RBI) led Imlay City with multiple-hit performances. They were backed by Ryan Baker (a double, two runs and two RBI), Devon Wiegers (a single and two runs scored), John Aversano and Garrett Medaugh (a single and one run scored each) along with Eric Vasquez (a single and one RBI).

Mark Owen Jr. was the winning Imlay City pitcher. He allowed four hits, struck out five and issue one walk while going the five-inning distance.

For Capac, Jon Botwin (two singles) set the pace. The Chiefs also received a single and one run scored by Steve Gilbert and a single one RBI from Brian Pietrzak.
