Almont falls to Armada, Yale in conference track encounters

ALMONT — The Almont girls' track team dropped a pair of Blue Water Area Conference meets at home, falling by a 70-66 count to Armada and incurring an 86-51 setback to Yale last Thursday afternoon.

Brandy Ullom, high jump, 4 feet 4 inches; Lindsay Benoit, long jump (14 feet 6 inches) plus 100 (13.5 seconds) and 200-meter (29.43 seconds) dashes; Jenny Murphy, discus, 77 feet 8 inches; Lauren Deneweth, 800 run, 2:34; Marie Burkland, 1600 (5:52) and 3200-meter (12:44) runs; led Almont with individual event wins versus Armada.

The Almont 3200 relay of Lauren Rogers, Ullom, Deneweth and Burkland also prevailed. They stopped the watch at 10:53.

Rogers, pole vault (7 feet) and 800-meter run (2:44); Bridget Corkum, 100 hurdles, 19.81 seconds; and Deneweth, 1600-meter run, 6:06; collected Almont's seconds.

Almont also received thirds courtesy of Jolie Wycinski, high jump, 3 feet 10 inches; Corkum, long jump, 13 feet 10 inches; Melissa McGarey, discus, 72 feet 3 inches; Jaime Ligon, 100 hurdles, 20.27 seconds; Melanie Gielnak, 300-meter hurdles, 57.5 seconds; and Wycinski, 400 dash, 1:12.

Benoit (long jump), Deneweth (800-meter run) along with Burkland (1600 and 3200 run) paced Almont with individual event firsts against Yale.

The Almont 3200-meter relay of Ullom, Rogers, Deneweth and Burkland also emerged victorious.

Rogers (pole vault), Corkum (long jump), Benoit (100 and 200 dashes), Gielnak (300-meter hurdles) and Ullom (400 dash) picked up Almont's seconds.

Almont also counted third-place finishes from Murphy (discus), Corkum (100 and 300-meter hurdles), Rogers (800 run) and Deneweth (3200-meter run).
