Imlay baseball team splits a pair of games on its new homefield

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity baseball team, seeing their first action on their new homefield, split a doubleheader versus visiting non-league counterpart Lakeville on Tuesday, April 24.

In the opener, Imlay City fell by a 14-11 count.

Neal Thompson (four hits and four runs) proved Imlay City's top offensive threat. He was given assistance in the hitting department by Blaine Goertler (three hits and one run), James Hensley (two hits and two runs), Devon Wiegers (two hits, two RBI and one run), Andrew Rodak (one hit, one run and two RBI) and Garrett Medaugh (one hit and two RBI).

In the nightcap, Imlay City bounced back with a 7-4 win.

Goertler was Imlay City's pitcher of record. He scattered eight hits, struck out eight and issued three walks over the seven-inning distance.

Goertler (three hits, including the field's first home run, two runs and three RBI), Eric Vasquez (two hits, two runs and one RBI), Rodak and Wiegers (single, RBI and run), Thompson (a single and one RBI), Steve Bildzok (one single and one run) and Ryan Pitt (a single).
