MUSSEY TWP. — The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department is investigating a train-vehicle accident that occured in the early morning hours of January 1.
According to the sheriff's department, a 40 year-old man from Armada was travelling southbound on Knoll Road just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
Public Information Officer said the man's vehicle went through the stop sign at the railroad crossing and was subsequently struck by an eastbound CN train.
"The man, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, got out of his vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate him," Campau said.
Campau said the man contacted their offices today, January 3. The accident remains under investigation.
