IMLAY TWP. — A 26 year-old Imlay City woman died in a single-car accident on Saturday morning.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office, Monica Huerta Rodriguez was westbound on Rider Rd., between Bristol and Bowman roads, just after 9 a.m. when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a small tree on the south side of the road before "striking a much larger tree," Sgt. Jeremy Herfert stated in a press release.
Herfert said it's believed the victim was fatigued at the time of the crash.
"Officer Ryan Wilson from the Almont Police Department arrived on scene and Lapeer County Sheriff deputies arrived on scene and attempted to pry the passenger door open," Herfert stated.
"It was determined that extrication was needed."
The Imlay City Fire Department was dispatched to the scene for extrication purposes.
Others assisting on scene were Lapeer County EMS and Michigan State Police.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
