CAPAC — Madison Heights Madison (21-3) came out on top of a 53-39 verdict over Capac (15-9) in a Division 3 boys' regional semifinal basketball encounter on Tuesday, March 5.

Sandusky is where the action took place.

"We played tough," Capac Coach Brent Boers commented. "Unfortunately, we could not make big shots in the third quarter," he noted.

"Madison is a very good team. They were hard to defend and got into transition quick. We did a pretty good job slowing them down. I am proud of the guys and their effort tonight."

In Tuesday's encounter, Capac spotted Madison Heights Madison a 12-6 advantage after one quarter.

The second quarter would see Capac remind Madison Heights Madison that the contest was far from over with. It was there Capac responded to the challenge presented them with a 16-13 edge, closing the gap to 25-22 at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Madison Heights Madison bounced back with a 17-4 third quarter advantage. That staked them to a 42-26 lead with 24 minutes gone.

Capac then put together a 13-11 fourth quarter rally, only to drop a 53-39 verdict when the final scores were tallied.

For Capac, Jordan Hellmuth (14) and Joe Montney (11, including three trifectas) led the way with double digit point totals. Trevor Boers (five points, with a triple), Hank Barker (five) plus Jakob Sawyers and Brendan Falco (two each) supported their performances.

Boers posted the top Capac rebound output. He pulled down 20 missed shots.

In addition to those numbers, Boers contrubuted nine blocked shots and seven assists to Capac's cause.
