IMLAY CITY — Imlay City handed Brandon a 56-31 setback in a Division 2 girls' district basketball opening round matchup Monday night.
With the decision, Imlay City moves on to Wednesday's semifinals where it will meet Flint Powers. That game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
In Monday's matchup, Imlay City bolted out to an 18-4 advantage after one quarter was over with.

Imlay City then followed it up with a 14-9 second quarter edge, good for a 32-13 lead at the half.
Quarter three saw both sides hit for seven points, putting Imlay City up 39-20 with 24 minutes gone.
Imlay City then outscored Brandon 17-11 the rest of the way, closing out a 56-31 win.
Kayla Louwsma paced 14-7 Imlay City with 15 points, featuring a pair of treys. The Spartans also had Mary Lengemann (12 points, with a triple), Abigail Thibodeau and Kayla Rossen (six each), Jaya Forti and Madison Ross (four apiece), Kendall Sommer, Jenna Schefka, Ana Lengemann and Mackenzie Allen (two each) plus Emma Waatti (one) reach the scoring column.
