TRI-CITY AREA — When the individual state wrestling finals take place this Friday and Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit, there will be four competitors hailing from our Tri-City Area schools participating.
Imlay City advanced three of their grapplers on to the Division 3 state finals.
In the 135-pound weight class, Imlay City's Wesley Hampton (48-3) starts his tournament stint against Whitehall's Jacob Haines (14-12).
The winner of that battle meets the survivor of a bout between Standish Sterling's Dylan Kolbiaz (36-5) and Onsted's Bailey Westley (27-11).
At 160 pounds, Imlay City's Hunter Mullins (36-7) squares off versus Ida's Kalim Low (37-14).
The victor of that clash faces the survivor of an encounter between Manistee's Bryson Jensen (46-1) and Portland's Kyle Hinds (43-8).
In the 285-pound weight class, Imlay City's Joe Harper (30-4) begins his tournament run against Gladwin's James Bailey (38-8).
The winner of that contest meets the survivor of a match between Michigan Center's Brock Kuhn (43-1) and Saginaw Swan Valley's Rory Garner (24-7).
Almont will be represented by 135-pounder Mathew Dwyer at the Division 3 state finals.
Dwyer (39-11) goes up against Alma's Jarrett Ferman (32-3) first.
The victor of that encounter squares off against the survivor of a bout between Dundee's Tyler Swiderski (25-10) and Sanford Meridian's Nick Dodman (41-10).
