ALMONT — The Almont wrestling team earned a pair of wins in Blue Water Area Conference action last Wednesday night.

North Branch High School is where the action unfolded.

Almont started their two-match stint with a 40-34 win at Yale's expense.

Gavin Dempz, Mathew Dwyer and Issa Abu-Joudeh led Almont with victories by pin. Dempz needed 1:17 to beat 125-pound foe Cory Hinton; Dwyer required 16 seconds to conquer Damon Peel at 140 pounds; and Abu-Joudeh took 39 seconds to down 215-pound counterpart Masen Joppich.

Lane Jackson (152), Travis Cline (171) and Hector Contreras (285) contributed Almont's triumphs by void.

Landon Kruse secured Almont's other win, accomplishing the feat with a 16-4 win over Fisher Mariott at 140 pounds.

Almont also defeated North Branch, 65-12, that evening.

Issa Abu-Joudeh paced Almont with a victory via the pinfall route. It took him 1:11 to defeat Jacob Nellenbach at 215 pounds.

Dallas Stanton (103), Dwyer (135), Kruse (140), Jackson (145), Mason Smith (152), Thomas Dyer (160), George Abu-Joudeh (171), Cline (189) and Robbie Battani (215) furnished Almont's triumphs by void.

Dempz was the other Almont grappler who prevailed, thanks to a 16-1 outcome versus 119-pound adversary Samuel Budreau.
