CAPAC — Capac earned a first-place finish at a Division 3 baseball district hosted by Lakeville High School last Saturday.

It marked their first district title since the 2013 campaign.

With the outcome, Capac advances to this Saturday's regional at Brown City where they will square off against Almont. The semifinal clash lists a noon starting time.

"We really had great pitching in both games," Capac Coach Barry Geliske said. "The defense was outstanding and made the plays when the pressure was on late in the games," he noted.

"The district had quality pitching and I am happy we came out of the district. Marlette and Brown City played their hearts out also. Moving forward we need our bats to come alive."

district title game would prove a tough one as it opened tournament action with a 1-0 win at Marlette's expense. That battle lasted 11 innings.

Jimmy Schroeder led Capac's offensive attack with a pair of singles. Michael Foster and Jakob Sawyers added a single each to the Chiefs' cause.

Joe Peters collected the lone Capac run.

Andrew Sams and Schroeder shared the pitching responsibilities for Capac, the latter getting the victory in relief. They allowed three total hits and struck out 17 along the way.

Capac then challenged Brown City for tournament honors next.

When the final out was registered, Capac had registered a 3-2 triumph.

Foster (three singles), Sams (a double) plus Brad Schaefer and Josh Palazzolo (a single apiece) furnished Capac's base hits.

Sams (two) and Ben Geliske (one) supplied Capac's runs.

Foster was the winning Capac pitcher. He allowed seven hits and struck out three en route.
