CAPAC — Capac turned back host Marlette, 61-43, in a non-league varsity boys' basketball matchup last Wednesday night.

With the decision, Capac improves to 1-0 this season.

In Wednesday's matchup, Capac took a 12-9 edge after one quarter was complete.

Quarter two saw Capac accumulate 21 points and Marlette generate 15, leaving the former with a 33-24 halftime lead to protect.

When the action resumed, Capac widened the gap some. Aided by a 10-9 third quarter edge, the Chiefs went ahead 43-33 with 24 minutes gone.

Capac then outscored Marlette 18-10 the rest of the way, closing out a 61-43 win.

Andrew Sams collected 22 points and Trevor Boers supplied 15 to lead Capac. Jimmy Schroeder followed with 10 points, including a rim-rattling dunk off a rebound 6:02 before halftime. The Chiefs also received points courtesy of Jordan Hellmuth (six), Jacob Sawyers (four, featuring a trey) and Jacob Witt (four).
