Ten area grapplers move on to regionals


One more stop before Palace

TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City wrestling team advanced five competitors, Capac three and Almont two on to this Saturday's Division 3 regional hosted by Richmond High School.

They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class placings last Saturday at a district in Montrose.

Luke Stephens, Hunter Mullins and Jaykob Shaw led Imlay City with seconds. Stephens advanced to the title encounter at 125 pounds where dropped a 6-4 verdict to Montrose's Reese Wallis; Mullins gained admittance to the 135-pound championship bout where he fell 4-2 to Birch Run's Mason Breece; and Shaw reached the title encounter at 285 pounds where he dropped a 3-2 outcome to Montrose's Griffin Barnette.

Kody King provided Imlay City with a third. King advanced to the 112-pound consolation final where he pinned Lakeville's Jewell Colley with 3:39 gone.

Joe Harper added a fourth to Imlay City's cause. Harper gained admittance to the consolation final at 215 pounds where he dropped a 13-5 verdict to Mount Morris adversary John Doughty.

Anthony Trudo paced Capac with a first that day. Trudo reached the 130-pound championship bout where he picked up a 15-0 victory over Mount Morris foe Scotty Amaya.

Dylan Wojie gave Capac a second. Wojie advanced to the title encounter at 112 pounds where he fell by a 15-8 count to Birch Run counterpart Kyle Parlberg.

Thomas Tyson tacked on a fourth to Capac's cause. Tyson gained admittance to the 171-pound consolation final where he was pinned by Cros-Lex's Xavier Herman with 43 seconds gone.

Jack DeMara and Gavin Dempz notched Almont's placewinning performances. They met in the third-place match at 103 pounds, with DeMara posting a 1-0 win.
