IMLAY CITY — Unranked Imlay City fell one point short when the final scores were added up, dropping a 40-39 verdict to host Cros-Lex (no. 10, Division 3) in a Blue Water Area Conference wrestling encounter last Wednesday night.
With the decision, Imlay City now stands at 15-11 overall. The Spartans concluded the BWAC portion of their schedule as owners of a 5-2 mark.
A group consisting of Eric Pawlaczyk, Wesley Hampton, Luke Stephens, Zac Hellebuyck and Jaykob Shaw led Imlay City with wins via the pinfall route. Pawlaczyk needed 4:26 to down Connor Woodruff at 119 pounds; Hampton took 31 seconds to beat 125-pound foe Noah Mills; Stephens required 2:12 to defeat Steven Grabbit at 130 pounds; Hellebuyck needed 2:20 to turn back 152-pound counterpart Austin Czenkus; and Shaw took 3:00 to defeat Jase Jolley at 215 pounds.
Kody King (112) gave Imlay City a victory by void.
Joe Harper was the other Imlay City grappler who prevailed. Harper registered a 9-5 triumph against 285-pound adversary Blake Falter.
