There are some exciting prospects on the horizon for those interested in getting their new business off the ground.
In Imlay City, the Downtown Development Authority's @150 Pop building is again available to entrepreneurs beginning November 1, and the application process is underway.
An incubator, @150 Pop is a 950 square foot DDA-owned building located at 150 Bancroft Street that is available to entrepreneurs, artists or event organizers for use for up to six months rent free. The idea is to allow startups to test their business in a brick and mortar location for a month or more (up to six months) instead of signing on for one year, which is generally required by most leases. Without focusing on the overhead, entrepreneurs have an opportunity to make money, make adjustments to their business/product, and prove to prove to financiers and landlords that their business can succeed. The goal is for the start-up to grow strong enough to rent one of the buildings within the DDA district when the allotted time at @150 Pop is up.
So far, two businesses have tested the market at @150 Pop, and the DDA is ready to welcome another venture.
