Making a difference can happen one person at a time, so when all those individuals get together for a common cause, miracles can happen.
This weekend dozens of residents got together to do what they could to help put an end to the battle against cancer—the life-threatening disease that touches most people's lives in one way or another.
A Relay for Life, the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, was held in Capac and Imlay City June 9-10. Along with raising funds for research for a cure, the 24-hour events are aimed at celebrating those who've survived the dreaded disease and to honor the lives of those who were taken by cancer.
For the full 24 hours, participants stepped outside of their own lives and problems to contribute to the greater good. Their actions, their generosity may not manifest in the usual, tangible ways that involve recognition or remuneration, but have intrinsic value that is priceless. Giving of oneself to benefit all of mankind is an affirmation of the power and beauty of the human spirit.
Congratulations to Relay for Life organizers, volunteers, sponsors and participants for leading the way in the battle against cancer. All help light the path toward compassion, understanding, and serve as reminders that life is truly a celebration.
