CAPAC — The annual giveaway that helps St. Clair County students get geared up for school returns to Capac on August 18.
The Back to School 2017 event will be held at Capac Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will be handing out free backpacks filled with school supplies to low-income county residents during that time. In addition to the backpacks intended for elementary and middle school-age children, preschool packets with books and crayons will also be handed out.
Quantities are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
Low income families can get school supplies on Friday, August 18 at Capac Elementary School.
The event on the 18th is one of three that week being coordinated by Blue Water Community Action. Specifically, the Capac giveaway is being organized by the McLaren Port Huron Hospital Foundation and is intended to serve families in the western portion of the county in the Capac and Yale school districts.
Attendees will be required to show proof of St. Clair County residency.
A large food truck with added meat will distribute food from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Others helping the McLaren Port Huron Foundation's Capac/Yale Community Health Team are the Capac Chamber of Commerce, Four County Community Foundation, IPEX and Lakestone Bank and Trust.
