Teams will race for outhouse glory, trophies and cash prizes on Friday when the fun kicks off for Capac Days Summer Festival.
June 21, 2017CAPAC — Capac Days Summer Festival organizers have managed to pack lots of fun and excitement into just two short days. The fun begins Friday with garage sales and wraps up Saturday night with a fireworks show at dusk. In between are contests, activities, live performances, a parade and more.
Many of the popular events are returning—like Friday night's outhouse races and Saturday's grand parade—but several new items are listed on the schedule for children, adults and even pets.
"We enjoy bringing something new and fresh to our community each year for Capac Days," said committee member Samantha Ramirez.
New attractions on Friday include a Kids Push Mower race, just prior to the returning adult's Lawn Mower Race. There's also a laser tag attraction and a "We Need S'Mores Volunteers" event at the Conrad Community Center with the promise of sweet treats.
The crowd favorite, Outhouse Races, start at 6 p.m. on Main Street in front of Lakestone Bank.
There's still time to register for the competition sponsored by Allenton Collision and GrandView Class. This year's contest will consist of co-ed teams with four pushers and one rider.
The top three finishers will receive custom-made trophies and cash prizes will go to first and second place.
Friday's schedule wraps up with a 7:30 p.m. concert by local country and rock band Family Tradition.
"The Beer Garden will be open from 4-10 p.m. in front of Champions Sports Bar and St. Nicholas Church will be serving their taco dinner," Ramirez said.
Saturday's lineup includes a Princess and Superhero Party at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall; a cornhole tournament at 2 p.m. with $200 in prize money up for grabs and a new Pet Party at 3 p.m.
Pets and their owners will start to line up in front of the bank at 2:30 p.m. and parade for the crowds beginning at 3 p.m. Awards will be given to 'Most Unique Pet,' 'Best Costume' and 'Pet & Owner Look a Like.'
The Capac Library will host an aerial silk show by The Ring of Steele: Action Theatre on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In honor of the library system's 100th birthday, they'll be serving cake and beverages.
Voting for the Cutest Baby Contest continues through Thursday at the Capac Library, with the winner to be announced on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the festival stage. They'll receive a $50 Capac Chamber of Commerce gift card.
"It's not too late to enter the grand parade. We'll line up at 4:30 p.m. near the middle school," Ramirez added.
Starting at 5 p.m., the parade will travel down Main Street.
At 6 p.m., the band Sullivan's will take the stage followed by Phoenix Rising at 8 p.m.
The fireworks show is slated to begin at dusk. Pyrotechnics will be launched from the soccer fields behind the school.
On both days there will be a communitywide garage sale, fun zone and inflatables, food and other vendors on Main Street.
