February 15, 2017
IMLAY CITY — Representatives from the Venture Global Engineering Foundation of Imlay City sought and received unanimous approval on Tuesday, Feb. 7, to sell raffle tickets for their annual golf fundraiser.

Venture Global Engineering President John Murphy and Spokesperson Christina Muir-Murphy informed city commissioners that last summer's fundraiser at Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester Hills raised $225,000 to benefit local schools and educational opportunities for local students.

The company works in collaboration with Michigan's "Project Lead The Way" program.

Among the beneficiaries of last year's fundraiser was Almont Community Schools, which was awarded $35,000 for STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) programming.

The district's most recent financial windfall from Venture Global brings to $63,000 the total amount the business has donated to Almont Schools since the project's inception.

Next event is July 22

The Murphys announced that the 2017 Golf Fundraiser will take place Saturday, July 22 at Wyndgate Country Club, starting with breakfast at 7:30 a.m.

Christina Muir-Murphy said she anticipates another banner year, with more than 300 golfers expected to take part in the upcoming event at Wyndgate.

"Our goal for 2017 is to raise and donate $400,000," said Muir-Murphy. "At this time we're reaching out to our local schools and non-profits to encourage them to apply for funding."

Though every request cannot be honored, the company does its best to distribute funds throughout the area.

"We're very excited about this program," said Muir-Murphy, "and we're always looking for new recipients."

Given the past support for the annual golf fundraiser, John Murphy anticipates continued growth for the event, which began in 2014.

"We sell out two golf courses," Murphy noted. "I pay all the costs, and everything we raise goes back to the kids, schools and communies."
