Blueberry Auction on tap for Saturday

Dozens of items, trips up for grabs at annual fundraiser

March 06, 2013
IMLAY CITY — The auction items continue to roll in for the March 9th Blueberry Auction at Countryside Banquet Center this Saturday.

Sponsored annually by the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce, all money raised from the auction will go toward entertainment, fireworks and other activities at the 2013 Blueberry Festival, coming August 2-3.

The doors open at 6 p.m., with the live auction slated to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and a cash bar will be available to attendees.

Auctioneer Brian Rowley and volunteers keep the action lively during last year’s Blueberry Festival Auction fundraiser.
Among the latest items going up for bids at the 2013 Blueberry Festival fundraiser are: two tickets to the NCAA Basketball Tournament, eight tickets to Detroit Pistons basketball games, and a baseball signed by Detroit Tiger pitcher Al Alburquerque.

Previously donated items include two-night trips to Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel, a wine-tasting package at an inn on the Leelanau Peninsula, and a spring break family package to the Soaring Eagle Water Park and Hotel.

Other autographed items available are a football signed by 15 active Detroit Lions, an album cover signed by Detroit rock legend Bob Seger; and an 8 x10 photo signed by Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Other items scheduled to be auctioned off by local auctioneer Brian Rowley linclude a firepit, a tandem skydiving adventure, a child's pedal car, antique toys, bottles of wine, dozens of gift certificates and a gift basket containing items from local businesses.

In addition, an iPad2 will be raffled off by Lapeer County Bank & Trust, along with a lottery tree raffle and 50/50 drawings.

Chamber of Commerce Director Dana Walker said event promoters are coming off a highly successful 2012 Auction, when more than $22,000 was raised for last year's Blueberry Festival.

"It's going to be tough to match the success of last year's auction," said Walker. "We know it's going to be a challenge.

"The good thing is that we have some great items going up for bids on March 9," she said. "I anticipate that with the support of our businesses, our volunteers and the community-at-large, we're going to have another very successful event."

She noted that the $5 admission price includes appetizers and a chance to win the door prize.
