IMLAY TWP. — A 47 year-old Imlay City man died as the result of a two-vehicle crash on Friday (Oct. 26) on M-53, south of Bowers Road. According to Detective Sgt. Jason Parks of the Lapeer County Sheriffs Department, Eric Easterling was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A witness said a northbound passenger vehicle crossed the center line at around 10:30 a.m. and collided with a southbound semi-truck. Parks said Easterling was attempting to pass another northbound vehicle on the gravel shoulder when he lost control of his 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic.
Both vehicles ended up in a ditch on the west side of Van Dyke, just south of Bowers, and caught fire.
The truck driver, Ronald Haag of Minden City, was able to walk away from the crash.
Fire departments from Goodland Township and Imlay City responded to the accident scene, as did Michigan State Police, Imlay City police, Lapeer County deputies and emergency personnel from Lapeer EMS.
