Sitting under shade tree of joy

I've been participating in some mini guided meditations and sharing what I know with some open minded people in town.

The Chinese New Year celebration in February, and the Mardi Gras celebration in March gave me an opportunity to get out the quartz crystal singing bowl and share its amazing, soothing, healing,

centering and restoring benefits with anyone

who's interested enough

to try it.

It was very rewarding to get such positive feedback. Some people came for more than one session.

This brings me great joy, and yet another chance to share the benefits of mindfulness and living in the present moment here, too.

These gems are what I consider more tools in the box for everyday living. These tools are all formed with words and strengthened by certainties that I've discovered to be true.

These tools can be reached for to water the seeds of happiness, which root just as quickly as the seeds of doubt. These tools remind me that every time I pull out a negative experience and examine its effect on me, I'm watering that seed. That seed is sprouting. The more I do it the greater the sprout until I look above my head one day to see it's covered in the dark shade of a huge gnarly tree.

Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh says all that works the same way with the positive memories—the good seeds so to speak. Those are the ones that are worth pulling out and watering.

I hope everyone who stops by at this spot now and then grows a huge shady tree of knowledge rooted in love and sprouting with wisdom. With watering can in hand I go forth and give it a try.

So in order to do the watering I'll borrow from a trusted source, a deep well of spiritual connection and light: Thich Nhat Hanh himself. Here's some nourishment for the only seeds that count:

"Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy."
