Hoover concludes his first year with Lake Superior State squad

August 15, 2007CAPAC — Jake Hoover, a graduate of Capac High School, completed his initial season with the Lake Superior State University men's track team recently.
It was there he saved his best performance for last, registering a two-way tie for ninth with Michigan Tech University's James Hart among 3000-meter steeplechase contestants at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships recently.
Hoover registered a 10:16.13 clocking en route to the strong showing.
Northwood University, in Midland, is where the action unfolded.
Grand Valley State University sophomore Chris Hammer took race honors that day. Hammer stopped the watch at 9:13.62.
When the final scores were posted, Lake Superior State University had amassed a 30-point total. That paved the way to a seventh among the nine-team field assembled.
Grand Valley State University (271.5 points), Ashland University (179.5), Hillsdale College (94), Saginaw Valley State University (89), Northwood University (64) and the University of Findlay (47) finished ahead of them plus Michigan Tech University (20) and Ferris State University (19) wound up behind them that day.
Hoover also saw action for the Lake Superior State University men's track team last fall.
He logged a season-best 16:30 clocking over 5K there.
Hoover also tested his endurance skills at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
Sycamore Springs Golf Course, in Arlington, Ohio, hosted the meet.
Hoover took 123rd with a time of 29:09.9 over the 8K distance. That ranked him eighth among Lake Superior State University runners that day.
When the final scores were announced, Grand Valley State University's 24-point output set the pace. They were followed by Wayne State University (66 points), Saginaw Valley State University (92), Hillsdale (100), Ashland University (119), Northwood University (120), Lake Superior State University (222), Ferris State University (226), Michigan Tech (253), Findlay (261) and Mercyhurst (286).
